Have you ever thought about why someone always leaves one light on in a house at night?
I typically do not have a normal sleep schedule (if you cannot already tell). Typically I go to bed when work is done, I can’t keep my eyes open, or a dog wakes me up to go out.
This early morning was an invitation from a dog that needed to go out. But this gives me time to observe the world when it is mostly quiet, still, and peaceful, where you observe the little things.
Have you ever noticed the small things we do because someone before us always did? This morning I noticed on our walk that several homes left one small light on (including ours), and I wondered why do they leave their light on?
In my family, from when I was little till now, we typically leave a small/dim light, like above the stove, on for our little girl. So if she gets up at night, she can find her way to us. When I was little, and my family would vacation at our family’s one-room cabin in northern Wisconsin, my parents would leave the small wall sconce above the stove on.
It brings a warm feeling to my heart and mind knowing that someone cared enough to think of me to make sure I felt safe and secure – and could find my way if needed.
What’s your story of the one little thing that someone, before you did that, comforts you?
Is it like the Motel 6 “We’ll leave the light on for you”
Even finding a photo that would resonate with this feeling was hard. The image could not be eerie, cold, or spooky. It HAD to project warmth, feeling, caring, and love.
Yeah, love… and because someone always did for me, I will always do for others. Even a small “thing” makes a big difference
